
10th INTERNATIONAL ATHENA OLIVE OIL COMPETITION
This year, the 10th International Athena Olive Oil Competition takes place in the historic city of Chania, with a large participation of judges from various countries.
The competition is co-organized by the Region of Crete, the Regional Association of Municipalities of Crete, the Municipality of Chania, the Municipality of Platanias, the Municipality of Kissamos, the Municipality of Kantanos-Selino, the Municipality of Apokoronas, the Municipality of Sfakia, the Chania Chamber of Commerce & Industry (EBEX), and the Regional Development Company of Crete (PANETAIK AE).
The objectives of the event are:
- To promote and advance high-quality extra virgin olive oils in Greece and abroad.
- To contribute to the production of high-quality olive oils and their continuous improvement, highlighting not only the established but also newly entering olive-producing countries or regions, as well as rare olive varieties.
- To encourage the consumption of olive oil as a nutritious and healthy product with cultural value, promoting it also as an element of high gastronomy.
- To present the typical characteristics of each olive oil, as well as the trends affecting the sector, to both experts and professionals, as well as consumers, aiming to raise awareness about global olive production.
- To help consumers choose the best olive oils in the world for their needs with the guarantee of the “ATHENA” mark, which certifies high quality.
Renowned and distinguished internationally reputed judges, visiting our island from all over the world, are called to select the best olive oils for this year’s International Athena Olive Oil Competition. At the same time, they will have the opportunity to tour historical monuments and locations in the region and taste local flavors.
